Art 1 Final

1. My most successful project throughout this class is my abstract project 6. My topic was an abstract picture of Kalabria from behind. I came up with this topic while looking through pinterest for an idea. I decided to paint because early in the class I found a liking for painting. I used a canvas of a medium size because I did not want to have it to large. For the back ground and hair I added white and lighter tinted colored to make it a little realistic while at the same time not making it to realistic. The constract between the dark background at the bottom and the white shirt really pops. Also contrast is shown is when the light top background is next to the dark color of the hair because it allows the hair to stand out. Texture is also shown throughout the painting in the background and also the hair because the different colors add texture. This is by far my favorite painting I have done and would not want to change a thing.

2. For project 5 clay I made a slab box which was the project I had the most obstacles with. I had never used clay let alone made a slab box, so it was challenging since I did not know what to do. At first rolling out the clay was difficult, but I got help from people at my table and was soon able to get it even. The biggest obstacle of this project was putting the box together and making it smooth. It took a while, but with the clay tools and slip I was able to get it to stick together and stay smooth. To help keep it stable and keep the outside smooth I stuck small peices of clay on the inside to hold everything together. I had made many paintings before this and it was different painting the clay which made it another challenge for me. For the clay I had to go over my paint more than normal, and I also had to have more fous while painting because the clay was easy to mess up on. Trying new things like the clay project really help me learn for the future and taught me how to over the obstacles of art. I think overcoming obsacles, trying new things, and trying new things helps me as an artist.
3. For my final exam we were told to do something original, so for mine I did my monogram with sign language letters. I felt that my monogram was a good representation of me since I have lots of monograms and it was also an uncommon idea. I feel like over time my hand drawings have gotten a lot better from all the practice we did in class. In the beginning of hand drawings I felt that my hands did not look real, but as we went on I feel my hands became more realistic. One area I can tell a big change is in propotion of the hands. For example I see proportion improvement in the letter D where the index finger is in the air because in my warm-up D the index finger is short and squaty compared to the rest of the hand, but in the final exam D the size of the index finger fits in with the rest of my drawing. Another area that showed big improvement was the value and detail I added to the hands. You can see in the letter A during warm-ups that the details of the hands I added was very harsh and unrealistic while in the final exam A you see more realistic values and details. Also in the final exam A I added a shadow that the knuckles make on the hand while I did not shade that area on te warm-up A and I feel that the slight shadow makes the drawing more realistic. On the final exam I took about the whole class to work on my hands which allowed me to spend more time getting the small details on the hands right making my final exam hands look very realistic. I also added pops of color on final to make it stand out, and be a little different which I like because it makes it more exciting than the plan gray pencil. We worked on hands a lot during this semester, and I think it helped me become a better realistic drawer.

4. The new process for art was a big success for me because it allowed me to try new things. It gave me freedom for what I did and I believe it helped me be a better student by letting me be independent. This new process allowed me to focus on the things I enjoyed like painting. A good example of how this projected help me is for my project 1 realistic drawing which a made a clam and pearl drawing. Due to the new process I was able to have more time on this project because I enjoyed this project and wanted to focus on it. It took me a while to master making the drawing look realistic, so I did many sketches to help which is why having the extra time to complete the project help me have a better final drawing. The new process also helped for project 4 perspective which was the painting of the road going into the city. At first I did not know what to do for this project, so the new process allowed me to skip this project and comeback to it when I had an idea. I was able to think of the idea of the road and it later turned in to one of my favorite projects. Without the new process my projects would not have turned out so good, and I would not have learned as much as an artist.

Project 7 choice

For project 7 I made an abstract drawing of paint bottles. I wanted to draw and I saw the bottles on the table so I decided to draw them. I remembered an old warm up we did with drawing the basic lines, so I based the abstract drawing off that warm-up. I used markers to add colors and make the bottles pop. I think the contrast of the bright colors and white and black make the bottles pop. If I were to change anything I would like to try it with paint.

Project 2: color

For project 2 color I made a christmas tree farm using acrylic paints. This is the first painting I did and learn a lot with the acrylic paints that helped with later projects. I love how real the trees look, but if I were to change one thing it would be to make the stars and ornaments look more real.

Project 6: abstract

For project 6 abstract I made a picture of Kalabria. It originally was meant be modeled after a pinterest picture, but it turned into what looks like a behind picture of Kalabria. I painted using acrylic paints and I like the back round and how it bring contrast to the the person. If I could change anything I would try to make the stripes on the shirt look better. This is one of my favorite paintings so far.

Project 4: perspective

For project 4 perspective I painted a road leading into a city off in the distance. When looking at pinterest I found a picture close to my painting and thought it was a cool idea. I really like the idea of my painting and if I were to change anything I would try to make the lines straighter, but it was hard with the paint.

Project 5: clay

For the clay project I made slab box which I painted with acrylic paints. I was inspired to paint this design by Anthropolie prints and mozaics I found on pinterest. If I could do over this project I would try to make my slabs more perfect the so the box is smoother. This was one of my favorite projects so far.
